Henna House offers two different natural stains — Henna and Jagua (pronounced “ha-GWA,” and sometimes spelled Hagua). Both are 100% plant-based with no synthetic dyes or “black henna,” but they come from two different plants, develop differently, and leave a different color behind. Here’s how to choose.
The classic reddish-brown stain most people picture when they think of henna or Mehndi. It starts out orange right after the paste is removed and deepens over 24–48 hours into a rich reddish-brown.
What’s in it
Pure henna powder, sugar, molasses, lemon juice, and a touch of cajeput and lavender oil for a light scent. Never synthetic “black henna” dye.
Stain lasts
About 1–3 weeks, gradually fading as skin exfoliates.
Jagua (pronounced “ha-GWA,” also spelled Hagua) gives a cool blue-black to blue-gray stain — closer to the look of a temporary black tattoo, without the harsh chemicals real “black henna” uses. It takes a bit longer to develop, reaching its deepest color over 24–48 hours.
What’s in it
Pure gel pressed from the jagua fruit (Genipa americana), a fruit native to South and Central America — naturally dark, with no added synthetic dyes.
Stain lasts
About 1–2 weeks — slightly shorter than henna.
